Summer of 2016, three friends and I traveled throughout Spain for a little under 3-weeks. One of our day trips from Madrid was to the majestic city of Toledo. I inquired about a private tour a few weeks before our trip and this agency was super helpful and accommodating. I had a vision for the type of tour I wanted and Rutas matched it perfectly. Alejandro was our guide and he met us in the morning at the main plaza just under the big clock. Alejandro was everything you would hope to find in a guide: friendly, knowledgeable, and fun! He seemed passionate about this town and its rich history. We learned so much about Toledo in a short period of time; Alejandro was able to capture our imaginations through his storytelling skills and charisma.

My husband and I decided to do a day trip into Toledo while staying in Madrid for 4 days and book a day tour of the city with Rutas de Toledo. We couldn’t have chosen a better tour than the one with Alejandro and Rutas de Toledo. Of course we wanted to see all the touristy things but Alejandro started right off the bat telling us that first he was going to take to us through the Toledo where people live and give us some insight into the city, the history and charm of this unique place. Indeed that is exactly what happened. Alejandro showed us some very special places off the beaten path, a unique former harmam in a friend’s basement apartment, an old church and convent where cloistered nuns still live and serve the community and also another unique basement belonging to another friend that used to be the site of a mikvah in the old jewish quarter. He told lots of stories and gave us lots of information along the way and as we walked the streets. He also took us to some touristy sites as well. All in all it was a fantastic tour that struck the perfect balance and we found Alejandro to be informative, engaging and knowledgeable. A great way to discover Toledo. Highly recommended.

Let me begin by saying that my family and I lived in Toledo for a month and thought we knew the city pretty well. I returned as a chaperone of 32 high school students and we took the “Toledo mágico” tour with Alejandro as our guide. The tour took me to places that I had never been to before, and Alejandro was an engaging and extremely informative guide. Being in front of 32 high school students is not easy task, but Alejandro’s presentation of the tour was spot-on, extremely fun and unique. Needless to say, my students experienced a side of Toledo that is not overly “touristy” and this Ruta is something that contributed to Toledo being viewed as one of my students’ favorite overall experiences during their 15 days in Spain!

We reached out to Rutas de Toledo a few weeks before our trip and provided a list of ideas of things we wanted to see and do. They were very responsive via email and suggested spreading the tour over two days and recommended other possible sites to add to our itinerary. We chose back to back days from 10:00 am to roughly 1:00 pm. We met Alejandro at the agreed upon meeting point in Zocodover Plaza. We thoroughly enjoyed Alejandro as his passion for Toledo was very evident. In addition to the main attractions that were in our must see list, he took us below the city and we saw two ancient bathing sites–one was Islamic and the other Jewish. Alejandro compared and contrasted the rooms and the type of activities that would have been customary for their time periods. He also was given, quite literally, the keys to the city and we were able to go inside three of the gates/Puertas and see things that are off limits to most people. He also added history where appropriate. Our two days of tours were fantastic thanks to Alejandro. He made them unique and focused just on us. We highly recommend using this company for your Toledo tour.

Alejandro was a fabulous tour guide for our family, including our 10 and 16 year old sons. His English is excellent, and he is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his city of Toledo, helping us experience the history of the city in a way that felt very alive and relevant. We booked a two-hour private tour and he was very responsive to our interests along the way, showing us interesting nooks and crannies alongside with the more well-known sites. My teen said that he loved it and would have gone for longer! I definitely recommend Alejandro.
